What You Should Know about
Honolulu Tourism

Everything you need to know about Honolulu tourism is here to help you make the best of your Hawaii vacation in Oahu.

Oahu is the most populated Hawaiian island and the military command center of the Pacific. The capital city of Honolulu is the principal port, the major airport, the business and financial center, and the educational center of the State.

With countless resort accommodations, Honolulu offers a variety of activities to keep you occupied, from paragliding and scuba diving to swimming with dolphins to deep sea fishing.

The timeless tropical beauty of Hawaii meets the modern and cosmopolitan in Honolulu. It is no surprise that Honolulu tourism is constantly on the rise on the island of Oahu which is also known as the Gathering Place. Here, millions of tourists gather every year to pack in as much fun and sun as they can while on vacation.

All-star Honolulu vacation ideas include sunkissed Waikiki Beach, historic Chinatown and bustling downtown Honolulu, family favorite Waikiki Aquarium and the iconic Diamond Head. Outside the reaches of the city, the go-to spots include the much-visited Pearl Harbor Memorial, the colorful Polynesian Cultural Center, and snorkeling heaven in Hanauma Bay.

Family Fun In Honolulu

Honolulu tourism caters to everyone. Kids will be thrilled to watch free movies on a giant 30 ft screen at the Kapuhulu Pier near Waikiki every afternoon and evening during the weekends. Relax outdoors with warm tropical breezes and the soothing sounds of gentle lapping waves and music by local artistes. Chow down tasty local food sold by food vendors.

Otherwise, your kids can rub noses with dolphins or hand feed seals at the Sea Life Park which is a wonderful family outing. Or you can kayak with them to the protected bird sanctuary at the nearby Mokolua islands off Kailua Beach. From the beach, watch windsurfers and kitesurfers do their turns with the help of the constant trade winds.

If you are willing to drive even further afield, visit the surfing beaches of the North Shore where surfers from around the world converge to catch the perfect wave. Stop by to join the lines outside Matsumoto Shave Ice for the world renowned cones of ice with tropical flavors and syrups in rainbow colors. Matsumoto sells 1,000 cones of shave ice on an average day.

Romance Reins in Honolulu

Honolulu tourism offers just as much for couples. The next best thing to starring in your own movies is to rent a Hummer or an all terrain vehicle (ATV) and drive off road to movie locations for major movies such as Jurassic Park, Pearl Harbor and 50 First Dates, as well as several locations for the TV series “Lost”.

For a romantic time together, sip cocktails on a relaxing sunset sail on a catamaran, hold hands while enjoying a different view of Honolulu by twilight in a helicopter ride.

And if that is not thrilling enough, how about hoping into an underwater cage off the North Shore with a mask and snorkel to check out the local sharks!

You get a video and photos to prove how gutsy you were to friends at home.

During your downtime, there are lots of opportunities to relax--Honolulu tourism has loads of fun to offer.

For example, consider a lomi-lomi massage for couples, a Hawaiian technique practiced by ancient Hawaiian healers, where therapists use their elbows and forearms to work out the knots. For the ultimate spa experience, ask for the lomi pohaku in which hot lava (pohaku) stones are used in combination with sweeping lomi-lomi strokes.

Relax on Waikiki’s golden sands or poolside in the glittering hotels, hike to hidden waterfalls, or explore the underwater world in a submarine. Honolulu tourism provides an endless vacation and if you run out of time, you can always come back.

But that's not all!

Waikiki is the visitor's mecca known worldwide for its beaches and shops.
