Our Favorite Honolulu Nightclubs

The Honolulu nightclubs with their swanky designer cocktails, microbrews, themed dance clubs, splashy interiors and art after dark events, prove there is more to fun than just sun in Hawaii.

From edgy hangouts in Chinatown, new urban hip venues in famous hotels, upmarket national chains and over-the-top faux tiki bars, after-dark in Honolulu has seen new light.

Honolulu Nightclubs
There is a certain appeal to a brewpub with more than 100 beers on tap piped through five miles of icy-cold metal pipes - the hour-long wait on weekends at brew chain Yard’s House on Waikiki Beachwalk is evidence of that.

You can join in crowds of 20- to 30-somethings trying out sampler packs of six beers, or sip on more than 40 specialty martinis in between tasty appetizers.

A Pua Hana Hangout

See and be seen at The Rumfire at Sheraton Waikiki.

Previously decorated in dark interiors, the 7,000 sq ft beachfront lounge is now bathed in spectacular floor-to-ceiling views of Diamond Head and the Pacific Ocean.

The pau hana (after work) crowd enjoys wallet-friendly happy hour drinks and $6.00 signature cocktails.

But when the stars come out, move on to a drinks menu featuring more than 100 types of rum and high-priced high-style cocktails.

Honolulu's Best

Nominated the best among Honolulu nightclubs, urban-hip Pearl at the Ala Moana Shopping Center has bar areas, private tables and a cocktail menu designed by a Las Vegas master mixologist.

If you stay late enough, it changes to a clubbing hotspot until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Although not necessarily a part of the Honolulu nightclubs scene, ARTafterDARK, a premier art and food event hosted by the Honolulu Arts Academy, is a surprisingly good show.

Held on most last Fridays of the month, recent events have included, Bhutanese monks painting on surfboards, Tibetan sand painting and exquisite Indian miniature paintings.

Do not despair about the early closing hours – there is always another lively hotspot to hit!

For example, high-end wine bars are gaining a stronger footing among the nightclubs in Honolulu.

There are more than 80 wines here to try in Amuse Wine Bar.

You can purchase wine “credit cards” for use at high-tech carousels which electronically dispense your wine of choice after you have swiped your card. Sunday nights are at a steal when $25 gets you twice as much in vintage blends.

Chinatown First Fridays

A must is First Fridays in Chinatown, where cutting edge art galleries throw open their doors for a street party for art lovers.

Clubbers continue onto Bar 35, where they nosh on gourmet pizzas in between sips of designer cocktails, beers from around the world and champagne in its indoor and roof top bars. Live bands and great DJs create music to keep everyone happy till wee hours.

Popular among Honolulu nightclubs in Chinatown, converted warehouse Next Door serves up New-York loft-like brick walls and high ceilings. Nationally known DJs play hip-hop, house and techno while art films are screened during the week.

Energy left to spare after a day in the sun?

Zanzabar plays hip-hop, trance, house, techno and top 40 to meet all tastes. In Egyptian influenced décor, the club also offers salsa classes, improv comedy and room enough to fit 800. High on sophistication and variety, Honolulu nightclubs are the real deal.
