Create your own Hawaiian luau recipes by mixing traditional luau foods with the cuisines of Hawaii’s multi-ethnic immigrant population.
For example, instead of serving regular poke, how about Korean-style ahi poke?
Stir in a large tablespoon of Korean chili paste, sugar and sesame seeds into regularly prepared ahi poke. Listen to your guests' oooh and aaah as they dig into this wonderfully different luau dish.
Spam Musubi
This is one of the most popular snacks in Hawaii.
It's made of pieces of spam ham wrapped around a block of rice and held together with a strip of nori seaweed. It is easy to prepare.
However, if you want to be creative, mix musubi with chorizo. Slice some chorizo sausages, fry them and place them onto top of pre-made chunks of rice. Finish by tying the musubi with nori strips.
Alternatively, take a large piece of seaweed, spread a layer of sushi rice, sprinkle strips of chorizo and sesame seeds, roll into tube, cut into slices and presto! You have a chorizo sushi roll.
Can anything be easier?

How fun is that??
If you are like most of us, you might want to buy a Luau Cookbook such as the one from Sam Choy & the Makaha Sons' A Hawaiian Luau which is full of easy to prepare, delicious recipes.
Do not forget to include luau drinks in your book of Hawaiian luau recipes! Good food is even better when the right types of drinks are served.
Beer and wine are common, but if there are kids in the luau party, non-alcoholic drinks should be available to them. We know most kids do not like to drink water but here is a recipe for refreshing lemon and cucumber water that might just entice to give up soda pop.
All you need is a few slices of cucumber, a wedge of lemon and a large pitcher of water. Put the cucumber and lemon into the water and chill before serving. This is a definite hit on hot days!
By now you can see that creating your own Hawaiian luau recipes is a fun project and one easily done.
A great idea for a novel luau party favor is to write out your favorite recipe on index cards. Punch a hole in the corner of each card to tie a little bag of Hawaiian spices. Present the favor to every guest as they are leaving - they'll love that!
