What's Your Favorite Big Island Luau?

Make sure you include a Big Island luau on your vacation plans, you will not regret it!

Although the Big Island is the largest and youngest island in the chain, there is not as large a choice of luaus here as there are on the other islands. However, a number of the shows are held on historic sites which lend an authentic feel to the performances.

Whichever Big Island luau you choose to attend, count on an evening of exciting entertainment and sumptuous dining for you and your family.

Just make sure you reserve your tickets ahead of time, as these exotic and highly popular luau shows are sold out many weeks in advance. You don't want to come here and discover you missed it.

Big Island Luau at Kona Village

Big Island Luau

On the grounds of an old fishing village with guests sampling barefoot luxury in 82 acres of oceanfront, enjoy the island’s longest running luau at the Kona Village Resort.

Be prepared for an immersion in sacred traditions and history narrated through an award-winning vibrant South Pacific experience.

Under open skies surrounded by ancient Hawaiian fishing ponds in the Hale Ho’okipa, fire-eaters, dancers and singers faithfully recreate a time gone by. Watch the story unfold in every step and drumbeat and crown off your cultural journey with a Maori poi ball dance, an awesome Samoan fire knife dance and the throbbing, hip-shaking tamure from Tahiti.

The price includes a grand buffet of heritage foods and modern favorites. Feast on such as kalua pig fresh out of the underground imu oven, lomi lomi salmon, poi and delicious island fish, tasty chicken and tropical fruits. A complimentary drink is included in the price. Tickets for kids are priced according to their age. Reserve your tickets online now.

King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel Luau

Big Island Luau Timeless tradition comes to life at the Big Island luau staged at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel. It is the only beachfront luau in Kona and has proven to be a favorite of tourists and locals alike.

During the Island Breeze Luau every Tuesday-Friday and Sunday, the royal court arrives on the beach on outrigger canoes and is greeted with much ceremony by official chanting and the blowing of the conch shell.

You follow the royal procession to the grounds for the unearthing of the kalua pig at the start of the evening's entertainment. Come early to learn how to crack open a coconut, weave coconut fronds into useful kitchen containers or brave it out as the artist inks a washable Polynesian tattoo on your arm.

Then, dine on a delicious buffet featuring 22 dishes drawn from traditional Hawaiian and modern American kitchens. After the dinner enjoy the wild war dances from Fiji and New Zealand, graceful Hawaiian hula, the daring Samoan fire knife dance and the graceful long poi ball dance of the Maoris.

The Big Island luau is held at Kamakahonu, the historic site once home to King Kamehameha himself. It is performed within sight of the Ahu'ena Heiau, the ancient temple which is the King’s final resting place.
