What Will You Catch on
Your Hawaii Charter Fishing Trip?

Hawaii charter fishing is big fun! Whether you’re a seasoned fisherman with a dream to "hook-up" to a grander or never been out on the high seas before, you will be thrilled!

Although the waters off all the Hawaiian islands are prolific fishing grounds, the favorite spot of sports fishermen around the world is the deep water off the Kona coast. Why?

Because millions of years of volcanic activity have made deep cuts into the coastline here. The deep water begins right at the mouth of the Honokohua Harbor, making it ideal as the departure point for Hawaii charter fishing boats.

Deep sea fishing allows you to bring in the catch of your life, even if you have never picked up a rod and reel before! Your big trophy here is the Pacific Blue Marlin which can weigh more than one thousand pounds!

But that’s not all.

You can catch Spearfish, Mahi Mahi, Peacock Bass, Ono, Tuna, Black and Striped Marlin.

What you catch depends on when you go. May through July you find blue and black marlin in abundance;
in August you catch Wahoo, and from November and on, you find Ahi, Dorado and Striped Marlin. Have your catch cleaned and put on ice for an extra fee.

There are about 100 Hawaii charter fishing boats that operate out of Honokohua Harbor.

You have a wide range of choices in terms of prices, departure times and length of charter:
pick any charter boat ranging from 25 feet up to 58 feet. Most will take you out on half and fully day excursions and you can share a boat with other fishermen, if you want.

For example, in South Oahu, the Maggie Joe, a custom-built sportfisher 53 ft. long, is Coast Guard certified for 25 passengers. She has a large shaded flying bridge, Murray Bros. fighting chair, the latest electronics including GPS, fishfinder and plotter, cellular phone, CB & VHS radios.

You can enjoy here an air-conditioned cabin with TV-VCR & stereo CD player, a large dinette and additional seating to relax in between catches. The boat has a restroom, hot shower, and a full galley with refrigerator/freezer, microwave, and even a stove!

This boat’s largest catch? A 1,277 lb. Pacific Blue Marlin!

There are also smaller fishing boats available that fit your needs: the Sea Hawk, a 41 ft. Tollycraft, the Mazel Tov, a 46 ft. Hatteras, and the Ruckus, a 38 ft. Bertram sportsfisher, comfortable and very quick.

Walk-up bookings are sometimes available, but we recommend advanced reservations, so you can make the best choice.

All the boats are Coast Guard certified. Hawaii charter fishing is guided by local professionals - experienced fishermen who will make sure you have the time of your life!

Although you are not required to have a license to fish in Hawaii, there’s a catch limit per person. Most charter boats provide basic fishing equipment and allow you to bring your own bait, tackle, snacks and drinks in a cooler. They can also provide a full meal, if you prefer.

Just make sure you take lots of photographs as reminders of the special time you had on your Hawaii charter fishing adventure - and proof to support your stories ;)
