Are You Ready for a
Big Island Hawaii Vacation?

Is a Big Island Hawaii vacation your dream getaway? I don’t blame you!

Imagine waking up to the sound of birds in a lush green fern forest with koi swimming in nearby ponds... or looking up at a night sky dotted with twinkling stars... Relax and hang loose in the rich volcano rainforest which is populated with anthuriums, giant ferns and ohia trees...

Big Island Hawaii Vacation

All these are yours for the asking on a Big Island Hawaii vacation!

Did you know that Big Island is also known as "the island of adventure"?

It’s true!

No other island gives you
a place to choose between sunbathing, swimming with dolphins, snorkeling, surfing, water skiing, whale watching, parasailing, paddling, fishing, bicycling, horseback riding, rollerblading, golfing, snow skiing, (phew, I'm sure I've left out a few), all on the same visit.

No other island lets you see the world’s most active volcano, a 420 foot waterfall, white, black, and green sand beaches. From the 13 climatic regions on Earth, the Big Island has all but two (Arctic & Saharan). On your Big Island Hawaii vacation you can connect with nature or step back in history--it's your choice!

But don't forget to simply relax too!

Ask anyone who visited, they’ll all agree: the Big Island is Hawaii’s biggest playground. It is the largest and the youngest island in the Hawaiian chain. But it isn’t just big, it’s still growing! That’s because of the constant flow of molten lava from the still active Mt. Kilauea--the world’s only walk-through volcano.

You can walk close to the active lava flow to see the red-hot stuff in action, see remarkable volcanic formations, and visit a lava tube.

You can hike through and may even be treated to one of Pele’s (pronounced peh-ley, the Goddess of Fire) eruptions.

You will learn the Hawaiian names for different types of lava: pahoehoe (pronounced "pah-hoy-hoy"), which is smooth, billowy, ropey and an easy stroll. Or, aa (pronounced "ah-ah"), which is rough, jagged and spiny.

Big Island Hawaii is also a golfing Mecca.

Believe it or not, you have 20 magnificent courses to choose from. There are pristine lava-lined fairways and greens speckled with palm trees, surrounded by the clearest blue waters. Try your best to forget that you’re playing on one of the most beautiful golf courses you’ve ever set foot on. It may take a few holes and a few bad shots, but you’ll get used to it.

How about stepping back in time during your Big Island Hawaii vacation?

When you visit Pu’uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park on Honaunau Bay in South Kona, you are retreating several hundreds of years into ancient and sacred Hawaiian culture. You’ll be amazed at how the black lava rock shoreline protects this sanctuary of Hawaii’s past... You’ll feel the quiet peace seeing the ki’i (wooden images of gods), guarding the Hale o Keawe Heiau, a sacred temple that housed the bones of 23 alii (chiefs).

And don’t miss star gazing during your tour on the summit of Mauna Kea! At 13,796 feet or 4,205 m, the air is thin and clear allowing you to experience one of the most dramatic scenery on Earth.

Back at the sea level, you can choose from several types of beaches to laze around in. There is black sand in Punalu'u (famous for turtle sightings), green sand located at the island’s southernmost tip in K’au, white sand in Hapuna Beach, and the ‘salt & pepper’ beach (white & black sand) at the Kahalu’u Beach Park, in Kona.

Kahalu’u is a family beach and one of the best snorkeling spots on the Big Island.

Let your younger kids play in the shallow water as sea turtles crawl up on the beach next to them.

Dip into the calm waters of Kahulu’u...

...and snorkel with schools of colorful fish and sea turtles--you’ll bee dazzled by the prolific coral life!

A Big Island Hawaii Vacation is Unforgettable!

You have a wonderful choice of accommodation, whether you are getting away with the family, for your honeymoon or a surprise anniversary escape.

Are you looking for seclusion without isolation? Indulge in the luxury of Big Island Resorts, like the incomparable Four Seasons of Hualalai, on the Kohala Coast. It offers full service spa, six pools and a signature Jack Nicholas golf course.

If you prefer a good deal, in Kailua Village you’ll find several affordable, budget-type hotels conveniently located close to shops and restaurants. No trip to "da Big Island" is complete without trying Serious Grindz at local Hawaiian Style Café in Waimea. Just prepare for an afternoon snooze after.

Or, step off the beaten track and experience the country charm in one of Hawaii’s bed and breakfasts. Enjoy fabulous water views in the historic sugar plantation country, or hang out with paniolos (Hawaiian cowboys) in the cool uplands.

With so many choices of fun activities and fascinating tours and assorted accommodation, your Big Island Hawaii vacation is more of a reality than you’ve ever thought!
